EGNOS foundation

EGNOS is the first major contribution of Europe to satellite navigation, a domain in which both the USA (the GPS constellation) and Russia (the GLONASS constellation) already have a strong presence. EGNOS is a satellite navigation project of the European Tripartite Group (ETG), whose members are the European Space Agency (ESA), the European Commission (EC) and EUROCONTROL, the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation:

The European Space Agency is responsible for the technical development of EGNOS and its operation for testing and technical validation purposes

The European Commission contribuites to the consolidation of the requirements of all users and to the validation of the system, in particular in the framework of its trans-European works and research and development actions EUROCONTROL provides the civil-aviation user requirements and validates the resulting system in the light of those requirements
