The ESSP has officially declared the start of the EGNOS Safety-of-Life Service as of today, March 2nd 2011, following EC authorization to provide the service.
EGNOS Safety-of-Life Service (SoL Service) consists of signals for timing and positioning intended for most transport applications - especially in the domain of Aviation- where lives could be endangered if the performance of the navigation system is degraded.
Prior to this date and according to the Single European Sky regulations, ESSP, the EGNOS Service Provider, went through a process of Certification to become an Air Navigation Services Provider and a final acceptance from the French National Supervisory Authority (NSA) had to be achieved.
The EGNOS SoL Service, its coverage area, its expected performances and conditions of use are described in the EGNOS Safety-Of-Life Service Definition Document (SDD)
Once the EGNOS SoL Service has been declared available, Air Navigation Service Providers in the EGNOS service area may proceed with the publication of SBAS precision approach procedures (LPV) based on EGNOS, once they have established working agreements with ESSP as required by the SES regulation.
EGNOS Monthly Performance Reports
As of May 2011, monthly Performance reports will be published on this site.
These reports include complete information on EGNOS Required Navigation perfomances on a monthly basis and from the user's point of view.
The questionnaire aims at collecting valuable feedback from current and potential EGNOS Safety of Life (SoL) service users in the Civil Aviation domain, as part of the European Satellite Services Provider (ESSP) user consultation process. The main conclusions and outputs of this questionnaire will be shared with the users through the ESSP website and future ESSP annual reports.
Both the European Commission (EC) and the ESSP, as a certified EGNOS service provider, consider this consultation process as essential in order to establish a direct mean for EGNOS SoL users to provide feedback of their experiences with EGNOS. The EGNOS SoL users´ feedback is conceived as the main catalyst of the EGNOS continuous improvement process required for achieving the highest levels of use, performance, service and user support.
The ESSP user consultation process is aimed at maintaining openness and transparency to the users of the EGNOS service, to ensure the quality of this service in terms of the user needs, this process is in accordance with the Single European Sky (SES) regulations.
You can provide your feedback on the EGNOS Safety of Life Service by filling this questionnaire.
Last June 16th the Yearly EGNOS Service Provision Workshop took place at ESSP headquarters in Toulouse.
This is the meeting where the service provider (ESSP) has a real encounter with EGNOS users and partners: more than 80 people coming from ANSPs, regulatory bodies, institutions, industry, manufacturers and others EGNOS stakeholders participated at this yearly Workshop.
The Workshop is intended mainly for European partners, but this year South Africa and ASECNA representatives also participated. New participation of countries such as Romania, Slovakia and Ukrania were also warmly welcomed.
The meeting started with an explanation on the way to the Safety-of- life Declaration (March 2nd); an important milestone for the EGNOS world. Then a summary on EGNOS performances during the period 2010-2011 was released, all along with a presentation on EGNOS service improvements and the EGNOS system release roadmap. This part concluded with a review on the different EGNOS interface tools: EGNOS user support website, EGNOS Helpdesk, User Consultation Process, EGNOS Data Acess Service (EDAS) and NOTAM proposals Service.
Since the aim of this workshop is to be a real interface with EGNOS users and stakeholders, three Working Sessions were organized in order to have a public debate on different EGNOS subjects:
•- EGNOS Safety of Life Service Provision
•- EGNOS Working Agreements
•- Fostering EGNOS introduction in Aviation
Animated by members of ESSP staff with support from EUROCONTROL, the European Commission, the GSA and the French DGAC/DSNA, the round tables turned into the scenario where participants expressed their views and questions on these topics.
The Presentation made at the Workshop is available at this site, as well as the Q&A from the Working sessions.
The ESSP has just published the EGNOS Service Provision Yearly Report available on this site.
This exhaustive Report covers the period April 2010 to March 2011 and includes an EGNOS Service Perfomance Summary during the aforementioned period of time, as well as the highlights related to the EGNOS Service Provison and Development.
The Report will be also presented next June 16th in Toulouse during the EGNOS Service Provision Workshop that will bring together different EGNOS stakeholders - Air Navigation Services Providers; Industry and consulting partners, manufacturers; European institutions - in order to discuss over EGNOS latest status, present and expected performance and service provision implementation and development.
