
CNS Service Expert - F/M
ESSP, a private company with 7 major European Air Navigation Service Providers as shareholders, manages the operation and supports the adoption of the European Satellite Based Augmentation System to GPS: EGNOS.

The adoption of this service is rapidly growing given it allows correcting the GPS signal and offers enhanced features with accurate positioning and integrity within safety-of-life services context such as public transportation.

If you have a good technical background with proficiency in data link services and applications and have at least 6 years of experience in aeronautical communications, then this position is for you!
By joining us, you will lead technical activities focused on Service Provision in the on-going projects (i.e: Satellite Communications/IRIS) and activities linked to CNS (Communication Navigation Surveillance) Services.
Main responsibilities/activities:
- Technical lead and expertise in all activities and deliveries related to CNS Services (e.g. data link communications), mainly to:
o Technical arcquitecture definition;
o Definition of service modelling and concept of operations characterization based on applicable regulatory framework and standards;
o Lead on technical studies and assessments of different technologies (SATCOM/IRIS ESA Program, VHF DataLink Mode 2(VDLm2)), state of the art for CNS;
o Service provision requirements definition;
o Contribution to business case activities;
o Support to service provison of CNS services;
o Lead Pre-Operational Service validation test campaing.
- Lead technical meetings related to CNS projects;
- Participation to international fora related to CNS (i.e:Eurocontrol, SESAR,etc.), gathering customer needs and/or providing guidances in the corresponding field;
- Report on CNS projects highlighting the current status of activities, next steps, issues/risks identified;
- Technical lead for identification/preparation of potential tenders for CNS in line with ESSP strategy.
Profile:
- Good capacity of analysis, synthesis and reporting
- Team player spirit
- Ability to assume responsibilities, proactiveness/initiative
- Deep knowledge in Communication Navigation Surveillance /Air Traffic Management technologies, especially focused on datalink technologies (Aircraft Communication Addressing and Reporting System (ACARS), VDL Mode 2, SATCOM-IRIS, Aeronautical Telecommunication Network such as ATN/OSI and ATN IPS)
- Good understanding of European regulation (such as, but not limited to, Single European Sky regulatory framework and EASA regulation) as well as applicable standards (ICAO, EUROCAE, RTCA, ARINC…)
- Deep understanding of datalink communication services supporting ACARS-based applications, ATN-B1, ATS-B2 & ATS-B3
Other preferable skills:
-Understanding of satellite-based controller/pilot datalink supporting ATM communications
- Good understanding of ICAO Aviation System Block Upgrade and Global Air Navigation Plan
- Knowledge of datalink avionics
- Background in key relevant CNS fora (Eurocontrol, Eurocae, SESAR, others.)
Job Requirements:
Language: English (C1) – CEFR and Spanish (desirable)
Engineering degree or equivalent
Minimum 6 years of experience in aeronautical communications, with especial focus in data link (DLS) services and applications, and/or satellite technologies (SATCOM/IRIS ESA Program).
Experience in international and multi-stakeholder projects
Available for regular travels mainly in Europe
Subject to constraints of minimum presence during normal vacation periods (July/August, Christmas, February, Easter).
Subject to on-call duty during weekends and bank holidays (nights not concerned)
