System Safety Engineer – F/M
Created in 2009, ESSP is a young and dynamic company, a pan European service provider, certified by EASA (the European Union Aviation Safety Agency) to deliver safety-critical services. Our mission is to operate and provide Communication, Navigation and Surveillance(CNS) services, among which, the main one is, the EGNOS service (the European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service), on behalf of the EUSPA (the European Agency for Space).

We are looking for a System Safety Engineer who will participate to the Air Navigation services (Communication, Navigation and Surveillance) delivery, as technical referent for safety aspects of Systems and Services. For these activities, we are looking for someone with at least 5 years’ experience in Safety of complex systems in one or several of the following domains: space, aeronautical, air traffic control, with a very good level of English (minimum B2).
Main responsibilities/activities:
On the operated systems and services provisions topic:
- Propose, develop and maintain Safety processes,
- Support acquisition and renewals of ESSP certificates for the air navigation services provision,
- Support internal & externals audits, define and implement required action plans,
- Produce or support the Safety analyses elaboration in relation with systems operated by ESSP,
- Validate manufacturer system designs files regarding Safety expectations in anticipation of their future deployment/operations by ESSP,
- Contribute to Safety activities related to Safety of Life services delivery:
o Act as safety referent in technical forum and in meetings with customers, partners, competent authority etc,
o Put forward Safety recommendations/decisions required for the operations,
o Assess Safety impacts of the deviations to the systems operational conditions and/or to the specified context of services deliveries,
o Assess the impact of changes to the systems/services/regulations, elaborate the demonstration of their acceptability from Safety perspective and negotiate their acceptance by the competent authority.
In the frame of ESSP development perspective:
- Contribute to bid activities for safety matters,
- Can be requested to bring safety expertise in support/consultancy services to ESSP customers, as well as R&D topics at early development phases of project,
- Provide support to the safety activities of other safety team members.
Profile:
- Specialization in Safety & Dependability activities: Failure trees, Failure hazard analysis, Systems safety analysis, Human dependability analyses, FMEA, Safety cases…,
- Knowledge of system engineering processes & experience in development of complex systems,
- The knowledge of the following would be a plus:
o EGNOS system, SBAS (Space Based Augmentation System) and associated standards,
o Systems/services in relation with Air Traffic Control,
- Knowledge of Applicable European Regulations in aeronautical, space (ideally knowledge of EU 2017/373 regulation would be a must).
- Autonomous, practical, rigor and detail oriented,
- Ability to work in a team, with initiatives and willing to take responsibilities
Job requirements:
Engineering degree or equivalent with 5 years’ experience in Safety of complex systems in one or several of the following domains: space, aeronautical, air traffic control.
Available for punctual travels mainly in Europe.
Subject to constraints of minimum presence during normal vacation periods (July/August, Christmas, February, Easter).
