The agreement will enable the implementation of new EGNOS-based procedures in German airspace
ESSP, as EGNOS Service Provider, and TRIAC GmbH, an Air Navigation Service Provider certified for ATC TWR, AFIS and CNS services, have signed an EGNOS Working Agreement (EWA) in February 2024 as a key step for the implementation of EGNOS-based procedures.
TRIAC GmbH, a joint venture between Austro Control GmbH and TRIWO AG, was founded in 2021 and is based in Trier and Oberpfaffenhofen. The company specializes in the needs of regional airports and commercial airfields. Besides Air Navigation Service Provision, TRIAC has developed a remote tower control system called ESTC (Enhanced Surveillance Tower Concept), currently in operation in Oberpaffenhofen airport (EDMO).
This agreement establishes the operational and legal framework to use the EGNOS Safety-of-Life Service as a navigation aid between the EGNOS Service Provider, ESSP, and the organizations willing to use this service to support air operations under their responsibility.
As you know, EGNOS is the European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service. It provides an augmentation signal to the Global Positioning System (GPS) Standard Positioning Service (SPS). The EGNOS service enables RNP APCH (Required Navigation Performance Approach) down to 200 feet (~60 meters) and RNP 0.3 routes for helicopters.
This agreement is framed into the EU Space Programme’s actions to achieve the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and accuracy in aviation through Satellite-Based Navigation Protocol.
The signing of the EWA marks a significant step in the international cooperation to employ EGNOS' precision signals and services in Germany, providing a cost-effective navigation solution to the benefit of airframes using air navigation in this country.
